Emerging Treatment Targets In Psychiatry: Translating New Mechanisms into Clinical Practice

From molecules and circuits to meaning, function and recovery.

Here’s a clinically grounded webinar on emerging treatment targets, therapeutic advances, and the changing hierarchy of treatment in psychiatry.
Moving from “What exactly are we targeting?” to “How do we connect mechanism, clinical change, and meaningful recovery?”

Webinar Overview

When we say a treatment has a target, what exactly are we targeting?

A receptor, a neural circuit, a symptom, functional recovery, or a goal that matters to the patient?

For clinicians, the challenge is not simply to discover new targets, but to connect mechanisms with clinical change, and clinical change with meaningful recovery.

IN THIS SESSION, DR SANIL REGE WILL:

01

Explore how psychiatry is moving beyond diagnosis-led, monoamine-centred models towards a richer hierarchy of therapeutic targets.

01

Explore how psychiatry is moving beyond diagnosis-led, monoamine-centred models towards a richer hierarchy of therapeutic targets.

02

Walk through emerging targets across molecular pathways, brain–body and sleep–wake systems, neural networks, interoception, predictive processing, phenomenology, and function.

03

Distinguish between a therapeutic target, a marker of change, and a clinically meaningful outcome.

04

Examine advances beyond conventional monoaminergic models, including novel biological pathways, rapid-acting treatments, neuromodulation, and precision psychiatry.

05

Map treatment targets across molecular, brain–body, circuit, phenomenological, functional, and relational levels.

06

Apply a domain-based framework to identify individualised and trackable treatment targets across perception, activity, cognition, emotion, and sleep.

Emerging treatment targets can become too narrow when reduced to molecules or mechanisms alone.

This webinar is designed to help clinicians understand therapeutic advances across the biological, psychological, and social hierarchy of the patient, connecting molecules and circuits with meaning, function, and recovery.
